Senior Software Developer
- Play a key role in the development of software for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), the world’s largest radio telescope.
- Join a multidisciplinary team advancing photonic systems for astronomy and space science.
- Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for 2 years.
- Base salary range: $104,243– $115,661 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.
About the area
The International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) is a joint venture between Curtin University and The University of Western Australia (UWA), established in 2009 and funded through 2030 with $65 million from the WA State Government. ICRAR is a leading institution in radio astronomy and a key Australian contributor to the global SKA project. The Astrophotonics Group within ICRAR develops advanced photonic systems for radio and optical astronomy, with a focus on long‑distance transfer of stabilised frequency and timing signals via optical fibre and free‑space laser links.
About the opportunity
- Lead software development for the Phase Synchronisation System (PSS) of the SKA‑Mid telescope.
- Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and external partners to deliver robust, scalable software solutions.
- Contribute to both office‑based development and laboratory‑based testing and integration.
About you
- Tertiary qualification in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
- Proficient in C++, Python, MySQL, TCL, SCPI commands, and Assembly.
- Experienced in AGILE development, version control (Git), and collaborative workflows.
- Skilled in software documentation and deployment practices.
- Strong problem‑solving and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently.
