FinTech / RegTech – The RegTech department within the Fintech Business Unit (Amsterdam, Bangalore, London, Shanghai) focuses on compliance and risk management through regulatory technology solutions. Key focus areas include:

  • Compliance platform: sanctions screening across multiple dimensions.

  • Screening & Monitoring: systems to screen partners/customers data, transactions, and relationships.

  • Risk Identification & Mitigation: identify risks, flag suspicious activities, and collaborate with compliance teams.

  • Regulatory Reporting: generate accurate, timely reports for regulators and stakeholders.

  • Technology Enhancement: improve algorithms and tools to enhance screening accuracy and workflows.

Role Description

A Senior Software Engineer owns end-to-end execution of technical elements in the Booking.com tech stack, products and processes. They implement complex technical solutions based on business requirements, estimate effort and impact, and deliver with high craftsmanship. The role involves collaborating with colleagues in other roles to design, prioritize and implement complex tasks, mentoring more junior engineers, and promoting best practices within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of complex systems for scalability, maintainability and performance; make architectural decisions aligned with business and technical constraints.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior/mid-level engineers; conduct code reviews and share best practices.

  • Write clean, maintainable code; ensure quality with tests and adherence to standards.

  • Collaborate with product managers and other teams to align development with business goals.

  • Stay up-to-date with technologies and best practices; drive innovation and process improvements.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 6 years of software development with architectural design experience; proficiency in two or more server-side languages; Java is required.

  • Experience with microservices.

  • Experience building highly scalable distributed systems and batch processing pipelines with data integrity focus.

  • Experience with relational (MySQL) and NoSQL data stores.

  • Experience with AWS (DynamoDB, RDS, Glue, EC2) is a plus.

  • Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.

  • Experience with defining/upholding SLOs/KPIs and participating in architecture reviews.

  • Experience with regulation/compliance policies is a plus.

  • Past experience in payments or FinTech is a plus.

  • Experience with authentication/authorization security challenges.

  • Experience working on products with broad customer impact and company-wide influence.

  • Experience with geographically distributed teams is a plus.

  • Preferably a university degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar.

  • Excellent written and spoken communication.
