Overview

Senior Software Engineer (React, Typescript) – Design Systems. Location: Nottingham, England, United Kingdom. This is a hybrid role aligned to the Nottingham office with the team in the office twice a week.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer with strong front end skills in React and Typescript, to join our Engineering team in our Consumer Services function. You will drive the technical vision, architecture, and implementation of a scalable, accessible, and robust design system that empowers product teams to build high-quality user experiences. Reporting into the Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead by example in engineering excellence, collaborate with designers and stakeholders, and ensure the system evolves to meet the needs of a diverse and growing digital ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical vision, architecture, and implementation of the design system.
  • Build a scalable, accessible, and robust design system that supports product teams in delivering high-quality user experiences.
  • Collaborate with designers and stakeholders to ensure design integrity and reusability across platforms.
  • Foster a culture of reusability, performance, and design consistency.
  • Mentor developers and lead cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Experience in React, TypeScript/JavaScript and CSS. Dart/Flutter is desirable.
  • Proven ability to architect scalable, modular, and accessible design systems.
  • Familiarity with Storybook, Figma, and design tokens.
  • Strong understanding of WCAG guidelines and inclusive design principles.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor developers.
  • Experience translating design language into reusable code components.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Playwright), and performance monitoring.
