The Solution Architect owns the architecture delivery of solution architecture for business projects, programs, and products. Solution Architects (SA) are responsible for delivering solution guidance and designs to projects and running operations. Key objectives are fit-for-purpose IT solutions, the right portfolio fit, technical integrity, right Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) through its life cycle, and alignment with Shell's IT technology direction. The resulting High-Level Designs have a measurable impact on the effectiveness of the end solution deployed in production and on stakeholder satisfaction.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide solution architecture development, consultancy, and assurance to projects, ensuring applications are well designed and conform to Shell standards and reference/segment architectures.
  • Be the point of contact for all architecture aspects of an IT product/project and be accountable for the end-to-end architecture through significant parts of the product lifecycle (from design to deployment and hyper-care in projects).
  • Identify architecturally relevant items (enablers) in the product backlog, work with business product owners and IT product managers to prioritize and decompose epics into features for agile iterations.
  • Address and integrate Business Process, Data, Application, Technical, and Information Security aspects of enablers; ensure architecture is documented using Shell templates and standards.
  • Review and accept low-level designs produced by engineering and SRE teams; make decisions on architecturally significant design tradeoffs with stakeholder input.
  • Identify and prioritize non-functional requirements and provide design guidance for their implementation; assess risks, issues, and gaps and work toward resolution or mitigation.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, data analysts, and SMEs to ensure data models and processes are aligned with market-standard products and configurable where possible.
  • Design end-to-end data flows, API specifications, integrations, and technology services aligned with Shell Tech Radar; guide CI/CD pipelines and support the use of Cloud platforms (Azure/AWS).
  • Guide SRE members on emergent design, maintain reference models in architecture repositories, and stay current with market tech developments to keep solutions future-proof.
  • Champion and embed Security by Design and Privacy by Design in projects, ensuring compliance with data policies and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR).

What You Bring

Desirable Technologies & Programming Languages:

  • Expert in one or more languages (Node.js, .NET, .NET Core, Python, etc.) with Cloud Native Platform Development (Azure/AWS)
  • Expert in front-end technologies (React and Micro Frontend)
  • Expert in data development technologies (SQL, NoSQL, cloud datastores)
  • Business domain knowledge in Commercial Operations and Supply
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks
  • Exposure to ETRM, SAP HANA, Salesforce, API management, Multifactor authentication
  • Azure Platform & Cloud Native: experience architecting applications on Azure, migrations/re-platforming, containers, microservices, data mesh
  • Data Architecture, Data Management & Diverse Data Types: logical data models, data platforms, medallion architecture
  • Strong knowledge of data management including engineering, pipelines, warehousing, privacy, security; experience with diverse data types (big data, streaming, IoT, low-latency events, time series)
  • Proficient in SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Azure Services & Integration: Azure Functions, Web Apps, event-driven architectures, ELK; experience with Azure AD, Data Factory, Data Lake, Storage, Kubernetes Service, CosmosDB, Azure SQL; integration with Confluent/Kafka, API Management, Logic Apps
  • CI/CD & DevOps: experience with Git/GitHub, Azure DevOps, Terraform
