Overview
Work within the project team environment providing support and advice to operational teams on aspects of the sustainability agenda specific to their appointment and skillset. Support the implementation of the Sustainability Management System and the Sisk Sustainability Strategy across relevant projects, fostering a culture of continual improvement.
Responsibilities
- Attend relevant functional sustainability team meetings.
- Contribute proactively to the development of the Sustainability Management System.
- Understand and promote the Sustainability Management System, Strategy, and 2030 Sustainability Roadmap to ensure continual improvement.
- Share knowledge and best practices across projects and functions.
- Comply with the company’s Sustainability Policy, Procedures, and statutory requirements, ensuring implementation at operational levels.
- Champion the Sisk Sustainability Strategy and promote change on site.
- Develop and implement actions to meet project sustainability objectives and targets.
- Ensure compliance with the Sustainability Management System at site level, including supporting the population and review of the Project SEEP and related documentation.
- Review and monitor works activities for adherence to the Sustainability Management System Procedures.
- Participate in project Sustainability MS Compliance audits/inspections, including external audits by certification bodies.
- Assist tender and prequalification teams with marketing, tenders, and pre-qualification documentation related to sustainability.
- Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and subcontractors on environmental management and sustainability matters.
- Support the reporting and monitoring of sustainability performance against KPIs.
- Maintain and improve personal knowledge and competencies in Environmental Management, including relevant qualifications and memberships.
- Stay updated on changes to standards and legislation, recommending system and process updates as needed.
- Advise on preventing environmental incidents and complaints, and on the practical implementation of company policies.
- Lead and support the reporting and investigation of environmental incidents, implementing controls to prevent recurrence.
- Provide guidance on obtaining legal consents, licenses, permits, and exemptions, as required.
- Manage licensing and permitting processes, liaising with enforcement agencies such as Natural England, Environment Agency, EPA, and Local Authorities.
- Deliver environmental training as needed.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years (preferably 5*) of environmental experience in construction or similar environments.
- Full driver’s license and willingness to travel.
- Experience supporting environmental inspections and audits.
- Ability to apply legal, technical, and regulatory information to construction processes.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with good IT proficiency.
- Developing analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Influencing skills and ability to manage challenging conversations.
- Experience engaging with senior management for compliance delivery.
- Excellent time management, organizational, interpersonal, and engagement skills.
- Self-motivated with a drive to meet objectives.
Qualifications
- Relevant degree or professional qualification.
- Associate (Practitioner) IEMA Membership.
- Incident Investigation Training (Desirable).
