Senior Syndicate Accountant — Everest Advisors (UK), Ltd.

Overview

Everest is a global leader in risk management with a 50+ year heritage. We are underwriters of risk, growth, progress and opportunity, focused on disciplined capital allocation and long-term value creation for all stakeholders.

This role is based in our London office with a hybrid schedule offering two days of remote work per week.

Responsibilities

  • You will assist in the general ledger close for the Syndicate and related legal entities, ensuring accurate Group reporting under US GAAP and local reporting under UK GAAP. This includes handling transactional processing—such as invoices, bank activity, and inter-company transactions—as well as posting general ledger journals, both manually and via interface.
  • Identify and act on opportunities to improve existing accounting and reporting processes, implementing best practices to boost efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintain and, where necessary, strengthen controls over general ledger account balances. Ensure accurate recording across years of account and business classes, and perform timely reconciliations of bank accounts, technical accounts, and other balance sheet items.
  • Collaborate with departments like IT, Underwriting, Claims, Credit Control, and Reinsurance to support financial processes and change initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of the XLPro interface for the Syndicate’s ceded results into the general ledger. Create and run controls, and post assumed results into the ledger of Group affiliate reinsurers.
  • Contribute to ad-hoc projects as needed, bringing flexibility and insight to evolving priorities.
  • Partner with other Finance teams—including FP&A, Tax, Actuarial, Treasury, and Group Head Office—to support analysis, planning, and reporting activities.
  • Participate in audits of the Syndicate and related entities, liaising with internal and external auditors and providing documentation, analysis, and clear explanations.
  • Offer support to colleagues in the Finance and Syndicate Reporting teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

Qualifications

  • You hold a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Ideally, you’re a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent), or working toward that designation.
  • You understand the financial and regulatory landscape and can navigate it with confidence.
  • Strong knowledge of the Lloyd’s market, including Xchanging and LCA processes.
  • Experience working with underwriting and claims teams, and familiarity with policy and claims administration systems.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, with confidence interacting with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently, but also able to thrive in a team environment.
  • Experience with Oracle ERP is a plus.
  • Familiarity with core market returns (CMR), market data collection (MDC), and Lloyd’s reporting forms—and FCA/PRA where applicable—would be an advantage.
