We’re on the hunt for a Thermal Engineer at our Stevenage, or Harwell office.

MDA Space’s international footprint in the UK creates opportunities to work with some of the most exciting space industrial players in the country. Delivering all three business area capabilities in Geointelligence, Robotics & Space Operations, and Satellite Systems, our UK team provides support to our European-based customers while specializing in the development of advanced space sensors for exploration missions as well as space-based communication technology. Responsibilities

• Select appropriate thermal protections, active or passive thermal control equipment, surface finishes, and interfaces
• Perform detailed modeling and simulations
• Predict temperature distribution and thermal loads on materials/equipment at various stages of the product's life cycle: launch, orbital transition, and in-orbit operation
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate thermal systems into satellite design
• Recommend optimal mechanical design based on thermal behavior and material characteristics
• Plan thermal environment tests to qualify new thermal concepts or validate equipment design
• Ensure that equipment is safe and functional in required thermal environments
• Prepare technical reports and presentations to support design reviews and client interactions
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements
  
  

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent, required
• At least 5 years of experience in thermal analysis and thermal modelling (TMM), preferably with Nx Space Systems Thermal or experience with Thermal Desktop, Thermica, or Esatan
• Knowledge of thermal issues and solutions specific to electronic equipment
• Proven experience in delivering thermal concepts for satellites or space subsystems
• Knowledge and understanding of space environments; experience in the space industry is a major asset
• Ability to identify key issues and prioritize them accordingly
• Ability to collaborate with specialists from other disciplines
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in parallel and work under tight deadlines
  
  

• Multitasking ability
• Ability to identify and prioritize key issues in a design
• Experience with electronic packaging and thermal testing
• Experience in the space industry and understanding of electrical requirements are assets
