Overview

We\'re looking for a Senior UX Researcher to drive user-centered innovation across our internal Data Science tools and platforms. Advocate for office-based peers and Data Scientists, helping improve teamwork and decision-making with user-friendly tools.

You will collaborate with a diverse team, including Service Builders, User Experience Composers, Interface Inventors, Product Leaders, Data Scientists, and Engineers to improve the user experience for head office staff and suppliers. You will work closely with Build Managers and the Invent Lead to develop the research direction across various business and data science areas.

You are an effective problem solver who is highly skilled in a range of research methods, with proven experience turning research findings into actionable recommendations that drive user-centred design and product outcomes. You are at ease with sophisticated challenges, you know how to investigate and map the use of systems that involve multiple services, and how to present your findings with clarity. You thrive in collaborating with experts and senior leadership to ensure UX research can inform development, product, and business decisions.

You have excellent observational and analytical skills, strong design thinking expertise, the ability to collaborate with other teams effectively, and a steadfast determination to do what is right for our colleagues and suppliers. You will be responsible for identifying user needs, spotting opportunities, and delivering actionable insights that inform the development of compelling user-centered experiences and digital products.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and spearhead UX research within the Enterprise and Data Science divisions at Tesco. We are dedicated to streamlining our colleagues\' interactions with tools used in the field of Data Science.
  • Scope, plan and conduct end-to-end user research (mainly qualitative) throughout the design and development lifecycle, from an early strategic direction through post-release validation.
  • Assist project teams in aligning business and user needs, crafting Data Science tool user experience, and specifying tool-level functionalities and experiences.
  • Work closely with cross-functional product teams to develop a research strategy that includes generative and evaluative research, and ensure the right data is being collected to positively impact the product direction and help users tackle their problems and meet their needs.
  • Combine and communicate research discoveries clearly and effectively to diverse team members. Partner with teams to merge research insights into product strategy for measurable results through presentations, workshops, or reports. Support the Product, Engineering, Data Science and Build teams in establishing successful user-centered processes and ways of working.
  • Mentor colleagues to build awareness and capability in user research practices to encourage the wider team to actively participate in UX Research, to improve organisational capability and challenge team thinking.

Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent experience of 2:1 or higher in human-computer interaction (HCI), a related field, or relevant years of professional experience.
  • Proficient in UX research with at least 5 years as a hands-on researcher for Enterprise digital products, emphasizing discovery and strategic research.
  • You have experience collaborating in an interdisciplinary group, taking charge of research efforts and influencing the trajectory of the product or service to achieve tangible results.
  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with a wide range of qualitative and quantitative research methods and techniques (such as user interviews, user profiles, user needs and jobs to be done, journey mapping, usability testing, surveys, card sorting, tree testing, competitor analysis).
  • A talent for storytelling that manifests in excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate sophisticated concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of seniority.
  • Demonstrated capability in working with cross-functional collaborators like business users, designers, product managers, engineers, and data scientists.
  • Comfortable navigating and mapping enterprise systems and multi-service environments.
  • Experience conducting research on tools for technical and non-technical users (e.g. Data Scientists, Analysts, Business users).
  • Experience working in an agile product development environment and applying lean UX research methods in a large corporation.
