About the Team

About our Team: Elsevier’s Academic & Government (A&G) is committed to advancing research, education, and institutional success through intelligent, purpose-driven technology and analytics. From empowering faculty and researchers with tools like Interfolio and Pure to enhancing institutional planning, research assessment, and academic discovery, our solutions support the full research and education lifecycle. By integrating data, workflows, and insights across teaching, research, and strategic decision-making, we help universities, colleges, funders, and governments navigate complexity, demonstrate impact, and drive meaningful outcomes in a rapidly evolving academic landscape.

About the Role

About the role: Join us in shaping the future of the A&G business segment through impactful research. In this role, you’ll lead our understanding of user behaviours, needs, and motivations, setting the direction for UX Research across a business or product line. You’ll bring expertise in a wide range of research and testing methods, and your insights will directly influence strategy and design decisions. You’ll also mentor fellow researchers to help the team grow stronger together.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on customer and user needs by understanding use cases, integrating UX feedback into design, aligning teams to meet expectations, sharing insights, and analysing market segments and competitors.
  • Apply creative problem solving by thoroughly analysing briefs, exploring multiple perspectives, collaborating with stakeholders and designers, and using research insights to guide and test solutions.
  • Lead user-centred product design by applying diverse UX research techniques, mentoring junior team members, producing research documentation, and collaborating with UX and visual designers to shape structure and visual identity.
  • Use data-driven analysis and testing to inform strategy by regularly testing with users, establishing key metrics, iterating research methods, summarising insights, and identifying data gaps to improve decision-making.
  • Demonstrate strong technical research skills by using relevant tools and software across contexts, mentoring junior researchers, and collaborating with tech teams.
  • Practice self-development by owning growth, seeking feedback, aligning with business needs, and leveraging networks to integrate challenges into work.
  • Solve problems by gathering facts from multiple sources, analysing issues thoroughly, and independently managing day-to-day challenges.
  • Be recognised as an innovative thinker who develops and implements new ideas and fosters collaboration to create opportunities.
  • Communicate clearly by giving direction, actively listening, and providing business context to aid understanding.
  • Encourage collaboration and teamwork by fostering open communication and cross-team cooperation.
  • Build strong working relationships by collaborating respectfully and resolving conflicts constructively.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of UX research best practices and tools.
  • Design and oversee user research initiatives using methods such as ethnographic studies, usability testing, and analytics.
  • Build strong relationships across teams and functions to foster collaboration in research and design efforts.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a design subject is preferred, but not required.
