Senior Water Quality Modeller role at Mott MacDonald. Location: London, Cambridge, Bristol, Manchester & Leeds; UK (other UK locations considered).
We’re a global engineering, management, and development consultancy with a focus on social outcomes, excellence, and digital innovation. Our Water Consultancy Division delivers multidisciplinary services across the full project life cycle for water and wastewater challenges.
Role Summary
As a senior water quality modeller, you will join a large team of water resources and wastewater networks specialists. You will work with engineers and asset planners to deliver a wide range of services for UK and international clients, using both bespoke and industry-standard hydrodynamic and water quality modelling packages. You will develop integrated river network and drainage models, investigate contaminant fate, build ad-hoc assessment tools, and undertake statistical analyses. Opportunities exist to engage across hydrology, systems modelling, groundwater modelling, flood modelling, and computational fluid dynamics.
Responsibilities
- Core delivery of complex modelling projects, collaborating with experts across disciplines to apply numerical and environmental engineering skills.
- Analyse large datasets to identify patterns, provide insights, and support effective resolutions and interventions; contribute to proposals and new business with technical inputs.
- Maintain client relationships and manage projects.
- Support and mentor junior colleagues where practicable.
Candidate Specification
- Relevant degree-level qualifications (e.g., geography, mathematics, environmental sciences, civil engineering, or related disciplines).
- Chartered with an appropriate professional body.
- Track record in successful delivery of SOAF, UPM and/or river modelling projects for UK water companies.
- Good understanding of hydrodynamics, sediments and water quality processes.
- Expertise in industry-standard software such as InfoWorks and/or MIKE11.
- Willingness to innovate and ability to mentor junior staff.
Desirable Include Skills
- Coding skills and statistical foundations.
- Experience in source apportionment assessments, catchment management modelling, or application of nature-based solutions to tackle pollution.
- Awareness of climate change impacts and regulatory drivers for water quality; track record in developing innovative modelling approaches.
