Wardell Armstrong, now part of SLR, a leading global environmental and sustainability consultancy, is seeking experienced Archaeologists (Fieldworks Supervisor or Fieldwork Project Officers) to support our expanding team and supervise archaeological fieldwork across various projects.

Wardell Armstrong has provided expert archaeological and heritage services for over 25 years, serving a diverse client base throughout the UK. Our facilities in Carlisle and Bury St Edmunds include resources for finds analysis, palaeoenvironmental processing, post-excavation analysis, publication, and outreach.

The role

Senior/Principal Archaeologists will support report writing, undertake smaller-scale reports with team support, and contribute to larger reports. Candidates should have or be willing to develop report writing skills, understand Harris Matrix software, and interpret findings on-site.

We have ongoing projects across the UK and Wales. When working away, we offer a subsistence package, travel allowance, and single occupancy accommodation. When not on site, employees work on a hybrid home/office basis.

About you

Ideal candidates will have practical experience supervising site work, a good understanding of Risk Assessment and safety protocols, experience in commercial archaeology, and a degree in Archaeology or equivalent. A driving license and own vehicle are essential. CIfA membership at PCIfA or ACIfA level and SSSTS qualification are highly advantageous.
