Overview

Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer - BESS role at AECOM. Focus on battery energy storage systems within the UK Transmission and Distribution (T&D) department, delivering HV design for projects at 11 kV to 400 kV. The role covers renewables and energy storage, grid connections, and private networks, typically with collocated Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Projects may include feasibility, optioneering, FEED, detailed design and design assurance for renewables including pumped storage hydro, PV and wind.

What you\'ll be working on

• Large projects and frameworks with renewable energy generation developers, primarily in the UK and Ireland, with some global work.
• Front End Engineering Design (FEED), planning design, feasibility studies, and detailed design of energy storage systems including grid connections, control and metering.
• Working with internal AECOM clients delivering large renewable generation or private wire projects.
• Supporting bidding, project and quality management in addition to engineering responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Experience with consultancy, contractor, equipment manufacturer or electrical utility in the energy sector. Suitable experience as FEED designer, detailed design or owner\'s engineer.
• Strong understanding of renewable generation and energy storage technology and battery storage chemistries.
• Experience designing HV grid connections, metering, and control requirements for battery storage installations, including BESS collocated with renewables.
• Knowledge of grid connection requirements for renewable generation and energy storage (e.g., G99).
• Understanding of electrical plant items and control systems such as transformers, cables, circuit breakers, HV Protection & Control.
• Team player with client-focused mindset and customer-facing skills.
• Ability to work flexibly across multiple projects.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering (ideally).
• Ideally project management experience (budget, time and quality).
• Ideally experience of multi-discipline engineering projects.
• Ideally experience of design and site construction review.
• Knowledge of grid connection considerations for energy storage is advantageous.
