Job Description
This position is open for our Birmingham, Bristol, Derby, Epsom, Glasgow, London, Oxford, Peterborough, and Warrington/Manchester offices, but we can be flexible with location.
Do you have the ambition, enthusiasm, and technical capability to work with us as a senior or principal hydrogeologist within the water resources sector? We are looking for someone to lead projects in our groundwater resources team within our successful Water Management Consultancy business. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced candidate looking to progress their career in a vital industry with an internationally renowned company.
Our highly respected Water Management Consultancy team has been at the forefront of managing the challenges of providing resilient and sustainable water supplies for the future, undertaking projects including groundwater resource evaluation, development, management, and environmental impact investigations. We are expanding our team to deliver a wider range of exciting projects for water companies, major water users, and regulators. You will play a key role in growing our business through winning and delivering work, enhancing our reputation for technical excellence.
As an experienced hydrogeologist, you will have delivered groundwater projects in the UK and/or internationally. You will work closely with our technical specialists based in Birmingham, Epsom, Oxford, and Peterborough. We have a friendly, approachable team with a strong reputation for excellence and client satisfaction.

As part of our Environment practice, the Water Management Consultancy operates at the interface between people and water environments, tackling issues around water, habitats, and future change. We provide a diverse set of skills across technical areas and a passionate, innovative team. We value collaborative work and aim to develop our staff through interesting and innovative projects.
Responsibilities:
Joining a successful team, you will work with technical leads to win, deliver, and manage groundwater projects, developing trusted client relationships. You will lead projects and bids, define outputs, and solve complex problems. Collaboration and support within the team are vital, and you will mentor junior staff. You will also work on water supply, strategic planning, resource optimization, and environmental assessment projects.
Requirements:
- Degree in science, engineering, or mathematics, with postgraduate qualification in hydrogeology or related field; likely chartered. Extensive experience in consultancy, water company, regulatory, or academic sectors. Experience in water resources hydrogeology, including WINEP investigations, pumping tests, borehole design, groundwater flooding, or water resource planning. Good understanding of UK hydrogeology and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience leading projects through problem definition, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and recommendations. Innovative approach encouraged.
- Highly motivated, proactive, with excellent numerical, analytical, report-writing, and presentation skills. Effective communication at all levels. Ability to build strong client relationships.
- Valid full UK driving license. Flexible with location, open to Birmingham, Bristol, Derby, Epsom, Glasgow, London, Oxford, Peterborough, or Warrington/Manchester offices.
We are also seeking a groundwater modeller to lead modeling projects within our team. The role involves developing and using groundwater models to support strategic management and investment decisions. Experience in groundwater modeling in the UK is required. You will work closely with our technical teams in various locations, contributing to our reputation for excellence.
AtkinsRéalis is committed to diversity, inclusion, and flexible working. We support work-life balance and offer flexible arrangements, including part-time work and remote options. Our benefits include competitive salaries, generous leave, training, and career development opportunities.
