Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain features on the PHP, MySQL, and AWS platform, focusing on reliability, maintainability, security, and testability.
• Participate in Scrum ceremonies, collaborating with stakeholders and third parties to align on requirements and deliver a user experience you can be proud of.
• Build and evolve RESTful APIs and web apps that operate at scale on AWS.
• Defend high standards of testing, implementing TDD/BDD and ensuring code quality during rapid change.
• Diagnose technical issues across local, pre‑release, and production environments on AWS; perform performance tuning and optimisation.
• Advise the team on best practices and mentor teammates as a senior engineering leader.

Requirements

• Highly proficient in PHP, with strong experience in TypeScript, React, JavaScript, or Python.
• Willingness to learn additional languages, such as Golang.
• Demonstrable technical leadership and direction within a team and broader organisation.
• Deep understanding of MySQL and relational database performance tuning.
• Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, CI/CD, and DORA metrics.
• Experience troubleshooting and fixing performance issues across the stack.
• Experience in software architecture and presenting technical designs to stakeholders.
• Expertise in API design and integration with disparate systems.
• Strong communicator, self‑starter, and comfortable working autonomously.
• Understanding of software security, OWASP Top 10, and secure development practices.
• Proven knowledge of testing methodologies and frameworks.
• Commercial experience with AWS and IaC (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation).
• Commercial experience with Linux, Docker, Docker Compose, Git, and DynamoDB.
