Senior/Principal/Associate Civil/Structural Engineer

We have an increasing portfolio of projects in the energy and industrial sectors, and we are looking for an experienced Civil or Structural Engineer to join our Global multidisciplinary Industry and Infrastructure Facilities team. Working as part of the team, you’ll be expected to lead the structural design of buildings on our projects in the energy and industrial sectors. This role includes responsibility for assisting with upskilling other team members to support the development of innovative solutions, ensuring structural integrity, and optimizing designs.

The role is primarily office-based (with opportunities for hybrid working) located within one of our structural engineering teams in Manchester, London, Leeds, Chester, Southampton, or Bristol. There will be occasional travel to client and project sites required.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Leading and managing structural engineering projects from conception to completion.
• Following FEED/FEL, DED, OE stages, and similar project delivery models.
• Analyzing and designing structural systems for energy and industrial facilities, including manufacturing and production buildings, sub-stations, power stations/energy centres, and other infrastructure.
• Conducting structural analysis and detailed design to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
• Developing engineering solutions that enhance structural performance and optimize costs.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations specific to energy and industrial sectors.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including architectural, process equipment, mechanical, and electrical engineers.
• Preparing technical documentation, reports, and proposals.
• Providing mentorship and guidance to, and upskilling, junior engineers.
• Staying updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.
• Supporting and contributing to business development and tendering activities.

Qualifications & experience required for the role:

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Chartered Engineer, with either the IStructE or the ICE.
• Minimum of 7 years for senior or principal roles, or 10 years for associate roles, of industry experience in structural engineering, with specific experience in energy and industrial projects, including sub-station design buildings.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards and safety regulations specific to energy and industrial sectors.

Skills and competencies required for the role:

• Strong knowledge of structural design principles, materials, and construction methods.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software, such as ETABS, TSD, Robot, or similar tools.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.
• Strong project management skills and the ability to multitask.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Technical expertise in structural engineering concepts and practices.
• Proficiency in data analysis and structural modeling.
• Knowledge of sustainability practices and energy-efficient design solutions.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines.
• Leadership and team management skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Skilled in resource and cost estimation for structural design.
• Support project planning and tendering activities.
• Ability to present at client and project meetings.
