About SWG Construction
We’re an ambitious, fast‑growing SME delivering high‑quality, sustainable build and renovation projects across the Midlands and Mid‑Wales. Holding ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications, along with CHAS and Constructionline Gold accreditations, we embed safety, environmental stewardship and quality excellence in everything we do.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) Manager to lead our integrated management systems across construction projects in the Midlands and Mid‑Wales. This is a key role within our growing SME, where you will embed quality, safety, and environmental best practice in every aspect of our operations. You’ll be the trusted custodian of our systems—driving continual improvement, ensuring compliance, and championing a culture where everyone goes home safe, proud and sustainable every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continually improve company-wide SHEQ strategies, policies, and procedures in line with ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001, as well as our CHAS/Constructionline Gold commitments.
- Lead regular site inspections and internal audits, producing actionable reports for senior leadership.
- Deliver engaging SHEQ training and toolbox talks for directly employed staff and subcontractors.
- Design and roll out targeted environmental awareness programmes to upskill the workforce and ensure day‑to‑day compliance with ISO 14001 obligations.
- Own and evolve the company’s Carbon Reduction Plan—capturing emissions data, setting reduction targets and coordinating initiatives that align with the UK’s net-zero trajectory.
- Investigate incidents and non‑conformities; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Liaise confidently with clients, regulatory bodies, accreditation auditors and other external stakeholders.
- Analyse performance trends, set improvement targets and present clear KPI reports to the board.
What You’ll Bring
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent / Graduate or Chartered IOSH membership (or working towards).
- Proven success (5+ years) managing SHEQ in construction or a closely related sector, including subcontractor oversight.
- Deep knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation, with practical experience of ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 management systems.
- Demonstrable experience developing and delivering organisational Carbon Reduction Plans and reporting progress against targets.
- Excellent communication, coaching and influencing skills—you enjoy turning paperwork into positive behaviour on site.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary £45k – £50k plus car allowance (flexible for the right person).
- 33 days’ holiday (including bank holidays) and a company pension scheme.
- Hybrid working options and genuine opportunities for professional development as we continue to grow.
- A supportive, family‑feel culture where your expertise shapes how we build better.
