SIEM Software Engineering Lead – Birmingham, United Kingdom (hybrid: 3 days in the office).
BT (Networks) is collaborating with hackajob to connect exceptional tech professionals for this role. The SIEM DevOps with SysOps Software Engineer will design, develop, implement, and maintain a strategic SIEM platform as part of the Security Engineering platform team, leading the SIEM Automation strategy and guiding the SIEM Platform Automation team.
Location: Snowhill, Birmingham, United Kingdom. Salary: Competitive with Great Benefits.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Kubernetes DevOps/SysOps Engineering: manage Kubernetes clusters, automate deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications.
- Implement best practices for Kubernetes configuration and security.
- Configure, deploy, and maintain Elastic Stack on Kubernetes (ECK).
- Work with log collection tools (Beats, Elastic Agent, Logstash), syslog, and other data collection protocols.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline software delivery and automate CI/CD pipelines.
- Troubleshoot issues along the CI/CD pipeline.
- Provide technical leadership in a high-performing team delivering security tools for BT.
- Be an active member of the SIEM/CDP log onboarding team, delivering SIEM/CDP functionality per requirements.
- Act as product owner, breaking down top-level requirements into product backlogs for quarterly/sprint planning.
- Lead on complex technical deliverables, ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery.
- Develop professional cyber skills, remain ahead of attackers, and develop others’ skills in the unit.
- Contribute to development and implementation of operational processes, policies, and procedures, including platform and SecOps processes.
- Drive continuous improvement within the team.
- Establish expertise in at least one Cyber technology.
- Interface with program/project managers to ensure security architecture engagement as needed.
- Provide technology coaching and mentoring inside and outside the team.
- Demonstrate growth mindset, willingness to learn, teach, and improve skills.
- Own or contribute input to shared infrastructure.
Essential Skills
- End-to-End Solution Delivery: ownership from requirements to design and implementation of robust solutions.
- Containerization and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes.
- CI/CD: installing, configuring, operating, and monitoring CI/CD pipelines.
- Programming: Python, JavaScript, Golang.
- GitLab CI or GitHub Actions experience.
- Monitoring: Grafana, ELK.
- Agile practices and JIRA tooling.
- Understanding IT, networking services and security.
- Collaboration to drive security objectives; strong communication and documentation skills.
- Autonomous learning aptitude and problem-solving abilities.
- Assertiveness and change-driving capability; effective in a geographically distributed team.
Advantageous
- SIEM experience with Elastic Stack (ELK).
- Knowledge of ArgoCD, Terraform; experience with CI/CD tools (Ansible, CircleCI, Jenkins, Parker, Terraform).
- Offensive testing frameworks familiarity; Kafka or RabbitMQ messaging.
- Knowledge of Linux, Windows, and Network Administration; cloud services (public/private), OpenStack, and Kubernetes.
- DevOps qualifications; TSA knowledge; microservices and service mesh concepts; security policy/regulatory frameworks.
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years in a DevOps role with ownership of a critical platform.
- Experience leading a DevOps squad with oversight and leadership of team members.
