A Little More About Your Role… We are seeking to grow our world class team to ensure we continue to deliver the high calibre of service and technical excellence both we and our clients expect. We are involved in many key projects of regional and national significance, which we deliver alongside our core UK and global framework projects.
With a strong pipeline of confirmed work moving into 2026, we have an opportunity for a Site Manager (Geo-environmental) to join our team. This role is specifically to support large scale ground investigations and will require a large proportion of working on site and travelling within the UK. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day delivery of projects, working closely with and being supported by team members, project managers and project directors. Activities will typically include management of team members and contractors (e.g. drill rigs).
The role will be predominately site based. Site works are dependent on active projects with travel to and working on sites across the whole of the UK.
Your Team The post will be within our Ground & Water team which is a service line in WSP's Earth & Environment business.
Our team of over 180 professionals at all grades provides land contamination management services to private and public sector clients in the property, government agency, industrial, defence and nuclear sectors. We have expertise across all aspects of contaminated land meaning we have the means to support and develop career development. We have several exciting projects in the pipeline including supporting with the energy transition, infrastructure and nuclear decommissioning.
The Key Responsibilities
- Management of site investigations.
- Management of field work including soil logging and environmental sampling, chemical and geotechnical testing, groundwater sampling and ground gas monitoring.
- Ensuring that all work is delivered in line with procedures and to the highest safety, health and environmental standards
Experience
- Knowledge of the requirements for planning, and management of site investigations
- Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and their application to safe design and implementation of site investigations
- Data handling, including experience in the use of GIS is desirable
We’re Looking For Someone Who
- Has a full UK driving licence (or equivalent) – this is essential to the role
- Is comfortable working on-site
- Has the ability to use your initiative and be self-motivated
- Has confidence to ask questions to understand objectives and expectations, and also to learn for themselves
- Demonstrates attention to detail
- Has excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Has the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure
- Has the ability to learn quickly and be adaptable to change
- Has the ability to deliver on commitments on time and at the right quality
- Has self-awareness and understands own limitations
- Is able to effectively manage time
- Has a strong work ethic
- Has the ability to work to a defined budget and timescales
- Can build rapport and relationships with peers
- Can build trust and sustainable support network
Qualifications
- Site safety qualifications (e.g. first aid training and site management safety training scheme (SSSTS) or equivalent).
- Relevant technical degree is desirable but not essential e.g. chemistry, biology, geology, engineering, or environmental science
- Able to travel to sites across the UK as required
