Software Configuration Management Engineer ALTEN LTD – UK (Manchester). Hybrid role (minimum 3 days per week on site). 3+ years of experience required. Eligible for Security Clearance (SC required). 1‑year probation. Key Responsibilities
Support software configuration, packaging and deployment across critical defence platforms. Maintain source‑control environments (Git, Bitbucket). Automate provisioning and patching using PowerShell, Bash or Batch scripting. Apply patches, manage Group Policy and strengthen cybersecurity for Linux and Windows. Test releases in virtual machines and deliver to secure hardware. Collaborate with cross‑disciplinary teams to meet security hardening standards.
Required Skills
Hands‑on experience with SCCM, Windows PowerShell or Bash scripting. Experience with Bitbucket, Artifactory, JIRA and Git. Knowledge of certificate‑chain processes and SELinux hardening. Strong written and verbal communication; proactive teamwork.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent. OR relevant technical military background with equivalent engineering experience. Must be eligible for UK SC Security Clearance.
Desirable Skills
Experience with quality and lifecycle tools. Experience implementing unit‑testing frameworks. Prior work on virtualised defence platforms and secure deployment pipelines. Familiarity with secure IT systems.
Security Clearance Requirement UKSV clearance with minimum SC level, already held or willingness to obtain. DV clearance is beneficial. BPSS completion required. Benefits
