Kharon is seeking a full-time, London or Madrid-based Software Engineer with proficiency in data engineering practices. Occasional in office attendance is required for this role.RESPONSIBILITIES:Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power Kharon’s data-driven products.Model and serve data effectively by collaborating on schema design and data modeling across relational, NoSQL, graph, and search systems to support analytics and machine learning.Assist in integrating LLMs and other AI/ML tools into backend services to enhance data processing and product intelligence.Own it end-to-end. Design, develop, deploy, monitor, and fix the data services and pipelines you build.Contribute to the development of pipelines and services that ingest, transform, and expose multilingual, multi-format open-source data.Work cross functionally with product managers, data scientists, investigators, and sanctions experts, translating fuzzy problems into clean, testable code.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:3-6+ years of professional experience in backend or software engineering with 1-2+ in data engineering.Ability to work standard European time-zone hours and legal authorisation to work in your country of residence.Proficient in designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs for data services using Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.Strong experience with Python’s data ecosystem (e.g., Pandas, NumPy) and deep expertise in SQL for building robust data extraction, transformation, and analysis pipelines.Hands-on experience with big data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Databricks, or Snowflake, with a focus on scalability and performance optimization.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, with practical experience using Docker, Kubernetes, and implementing CI/CD pipelines for data workflows.Familiarity with graph databases such as Neo4j, Memgraph, or a triple storeSearch experience, particularly in tools like Open/ElasticSearch, Lucene, Vector search (Pinecone, postgres Vectors, etc) to support complex data relationships and querying needs.Kharon is a highly disruptive and incredibly innovative organization that navigates risk at the intersection of global security threats + international commerce.What does that mean?
