PV Solar Design Engineer

Location: Home-based with regular travel in the North West of England

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday

Here's what you'll be doing

Our Energy Infrastructure Solutions business designs, builds, and operates energy solutions for industrial and commercial customers. The range of technologies we offer includes efficient lighting, Solar PV, complex multi-MW CHP, and storage solutions.

We combine different technologies to maximize our customers' benefits and help them achieve Net Zero. Due to rapid growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a multi-skilled Solar PV Technical Design Engineer to join our B2B Solutions team. You will undertake the design for PV projects, from spatially coordinated design to full design, specification, and commissioning of PV installations.

You will work with Sales, Development & Design Engineers, Supply Chain, Project Management, and Installation teams to deliver system designs for commercial and industrial Solar PV installations.

Utilizing your strong PV experience and proactive working style, you'll manage your workload with attention to detail. This role offers a chance to advance your career and make a significant impact.

Key responsibilities include

• Leading designs including shading analysis, 3D modeling, electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and connection diagrams using AutoCAD software.
• Performing computer simulations of solar PV system performance to optimize efficiency.
• Reviewing and approving solar PV designs, recommending improvements.
• Using engineering judgment to select parts and components, working closely with the supply chain.
• Communicating effectively with clients to ensure understanding of designs and proposals.
• Collaborating with Sales, project support, and installation teams to meet client needs and deadlines.
• Adhering to safety and quality standards, developing new processes as needed.

What we need from you

• Experience in PV design for rooftop and ground-mount schemes, with knowledge of PV components and manufacturers.
• Detailed design experience in wiring, containment, drawings, scaffolding, and fall arrest systems.
• Proficiency with PC software tools such as MS Office, AutoCAD, PV*SOL/PVSyst, and willingness to learn new tools.
• Knowledge of HSSE legislation, construction, and services installation, with formal CDM training.
• Experience with DNO G99 applications.
• Full UK/EU driving license.

Preferred qualifications

• An engineering qualification such as a Degree or HNC or equivalent.
• Knowledge of LV and HV electrical works related to PV projects.
• Understanding of the commercial impact of activities.
