Associate Solicitor – Court of Protection

Manchester | Hybrid | Full-Time

This is an opportunity to join a leading advisory and litigation team specialising in health and social care law. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of inquest and Court of Protection matters and support a diverse range of public and private sector clients, including healthcare providers and local authorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of inquests and Court of Protection cases with appropriate supervision.
  • Provide advice and representation in health and social care matters, including mental health, capacity, safeguarding, and human rights issues.
  • Prepare complex written advice and maintain compliance with client protocols and service level agreements.
  • Support the delivery of training and seminars for clients and colleagues.
  • Contribute to business development and marketing initiatives.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to junior team members when appropriate.
  • Meet financial and performance targets, including billed hours.
  • Engage in client secondments where required.

What We’re Looking For

  • Demonstrable experience with Court of Protection (health and welfare) and/or inquest proceedings.
  • Strong advocacy and case management abilities.
  • Knowledge of the health and social care sector, including relevant legislation such as the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Human Rights Act 1998.
  • Ability to handle complex legal and procedural issues independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with standard office IT systems and case management software.
  • A clear understanding of the structure and governance of public sector healthcare organisations.
