Solicitor or Equivalent (Clinical Negligence Grade B/C) – Birmingham

We are looking for a talented Grade B Solicitor (or equivalent) to join our Clinical Negligence department in Birmingham/Hybrid arrangement. You will manage your own caseload with autonomy and the backing of a skilled, collaborative team, including APIL, AvMA, and Law Society Clinical Negligence Panel members.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for running an individual caseload.
  • Provide support, guidance and assistance to the team to deliver outstanding service to clients.
  • Contribute to proactive and commercial case management and progression across the team.
  • Support the Team Leader/Head of Department in ensuring delivery of the team’s financial and performance KPIs.
  • Accurate and thorough time recording.
  • Responsible For
  • Discussing and agreeing case tactics and planning with the Team Leader/Head of Department and team members.
  • Identifying and driving cases ready for LOC, settlement, and service within the team.
  • Working with the team to ensure relevant information is collected to progress cases.
  • Managing a caseload in a proactive commercial manner.
  • Co-ordinating progression of cases with internal and external parties.
  • Drafting legal documentation including LOC and letters of instruction.
  • Negotiating settlements and issuing and serving proceedings if required.
  • Litigation of claims as required.
  • Overseeing documentation and correspondence produced by the team.
  • Advising the team on technical issues with support from the Team Leader/Head of Department.
  • Occasional attendance at conferences with counsel, meetings with clients and court outside standard hours.
  • Participation in business development activities and ideas sharing.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Recent experience of handling a caseload
  • 5 years+ PQE or equivalent experience in Clinical Negligence
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office, Proclaim and Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong commercial awareness within a legal environment
  • Ability to coach and mentor junior team members
  • Flexible and results-driven; able to meet deadlines
  • Excellent client care skills
  • Resilient with experience managing challenging situations
  • Full clean driving licence is desirable
