Are you detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about contributing to one of the UK's most ambitious water infrastructure projects? The Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) is searching for a Scheme Archaeologist to support and enhance our project delivery team.
What will you be doing as our new Scheme Archaeologist?
Working with the SPA Archaeology Lead and the Regional Lead, you will manage the archaeological response for one scheme. You will work with and guide, the archaeologists within the team to produce archaeological risk maps, baselines, and Historic Environment Desk-Based Assessments, EIA scoping report and ES statement Historic Environment chapters ensuring that deliverables are completed to a suitable standard prior to submission to the SPA Regional Archaeology Lead for checking.
You will also design archaeological surveys, evaluations and other types of intrusive fieldwork should they be required. Working with Archaeological Clerks of Work You will support the whole SPA Archaeology Team (SAT) where needed; tasks include authoring written deliverables and producing supporting maps for specifications.
Successful delivery of the role will require you to work in collaboration with all other archaeology team members, the delivery team, and other disciplines ensuring technical consistency is maintained across the team and the SPA programme.
Key responsibilities:
- You will produce archaeological risk maps identifying areas of high, moderate and low risk.
- Utilise ArcGIS software without support.
- Work in collaboration with other SAT members and share updates with the team on a regular basis.
- Use the information gathered during the risk-mapping exercise to produce historic environment desk-based assessments.
- Attend site walkovers and visit archives and record offices to gather baseline information.
- Produce heritage documents such as desk-based assessments, fieldwork specifications, Environmental Statement chapters and technical appendices to a high quality for check and approval within the SPA Archaeology team.
- Ensure adherence to relevant technical documents and methods, e.g. WSIs andMethod Statements.
- Providing a healthy and safe working environment is crucial, the Regional Lead will apply this approach to the management of their team, and to the design of any fieldwork.
- Work with the SPA Archaeology and Delivery teams to complete all work to programme.
- Ensure any changes to the agreed programme are communicated promptly and clearly.
- Work with the SPA Archaeology Lead and Enabling Manager to mitigate the impacts of programme change.
This job might be for you if you have:
- The ability to use ArcGIS software to produce mapping and datasets
- Demonstrable experience producing archaeological and historic baselines, impact assessments and deliverable figures.
- A collaborative mindset who facilitates the sharing of historic environment information across project and delivery teams.
- The ability to take personal responsibility for supporting programme delivery, particularly in the areas of adopting risk-based approaches, cost control and programme management.
- The ability to work flexibly across several projects, and to meet required deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication, and organization/analytical skills.
