Specialist Palliative Care Nurse

An exciting opportunity exists for a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care to gain experience working in a community setting (1.0 WTE). The post holder will work predominantly in the community setting with flexibility to work within the whole of the Specialist Palliative Care service as required. This is a 7‑day service which runs from 08:00 to 20:00.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist palliative care to patients with complex problems.
• Act as a specialist resource to generic health and social care professionals.
• Deliver education and training to develop the palliative care practice of others.
• Work independently and as part of the multidisciplinary team, communicating effectively with a wide range of healthcare professionals.

Qualifications

• Substantial years of post‑registration experience, including palliative, cancer or non‑cancer long‑term condition nursing.
• Demonstrated ability to carry out a full holistic assessment and understand the principles of symptom control.
• Excellent communication skills to provide advice and support to patients, their families and health‑care professionals.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development; experience of teaching is desirable.
