About the role
You will play a major role in helping millions of eBay sellers connect to our buyers worldwide via shipping experiences which delight and help our sellers grow their business. We are looking for someone who is product and delivery driven, and passionate about crafting innovative products at scale. You, together with the rest of your team, will support what you build in production. We release continuously - multiple times a day. We value getting feedback from production and using this data to drive further improvements and features.
The team You'll be one of 6-8 software engineers in the team. The team is led by an Engineering Manager and has a dedicated Product Manager and designer. We own a suite of web applications within the shipping space built with React and Node.js using TypeScript.
Responsibilities
- Architecting and building front-end React & Node.js applications that are secure, maintainable, extensible, and capable of meeting the demands of eBay's scale.
- Providing technical leadership and leading inter-team collaboration. This is a senior technical leadership role where you are expected to influence teams and stakeholders across eBay with sound engineering and architectural patterns and practices.
- Leading the transformation of our rapidly evolving shipping platform by assisting engineering and product managers in researching, scoping, and planning new platform capabilities.
- Driving data-informed decision-making by working with and interpreting metrics and data collected via analytics tooling to advance our platform.
- Leading on observability across your team and wider eBay. This involves supporting our applications in production, setting up and maintaining logging, monitoring, and alerting, as well as guiding the team to internalise learnings from production incidents.
- Mentoring teammates, fostering their growth through collaboration, frequent brown bag sessions, and direct support such as pair programming, both in the office and remotely.
- Improving the team's DevOps best practices by enhancing the quality and speed of build and deployment pipelines, proposing new tools, and refining processes.
Requirements
- Significant commercial experience and a passion working with React, Node.js, TypeScript, and testing frameworks (such as Playwright and Jest).
- Significant experience with monitoring the health of your applications in production, developing and using enterprise APIs, accessibility-minded experiences, and working in a continuous delivery environment.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with Grafana, Prometheus / Loki, Kubernetes, Sentry, and Storybook.
- Experience working in an eCommerce organisation, or a shipping/logistics/exports organisation.
Location
This is a hybrid role. Our offices are in Shoreditch, London. Currently we are spending three days a week collaborating and socialising with our colleagues in our Shoreditch office. When we're in the office, a light breakfast and lunch are provided, and a weekly massage. There's a bike rack and a shower too. Shoreditch is a lively area of London - we often go out after work in one of the many bars or restaurants in the area.
Benefits
- 25 days paid time off - increasing to 27 after two years, and an additional day each year up to a maximum of 30.
- A sabbatical of 4 weeks every 5 years.
- 20 weeks paid leave for birth parents, 12 weeks leave for non-birth parents (fathers, adoptive parents, surrogacy).
- Private health insurance, dental and eye care.
- Life and disability insurance.
- Employee stock purchase plan (15% discount) and Restricted Stock Unit (RSUs) grant.
- Employer contributed pension up to 9%.
