Strategist OMD UK

1 Days Old

The Strategy Team is an OMD UK strength, a twelve-strong department – two Managing Partners, three Strategy Partners, three Strategy Directors and four Strategists – reporting into the agency’s Chief Strategy Officer. We’re a collaborative, diverse, and supportive unit, have been central to the agency’s recent success, pivotal to major new business wins, increasingly influential on retaining and expanding existing client relationships, and responsible for much of our award-winning work. We lead and heavily contribute to fresh thinking, through internal Product Development and Thought Leadership.

The Role is a unique opportunity to start a career as a marketing strategist. Working into an experienced Strategy Director, your responsibility will be to help identify and solve clients’ marketing challenges with a better, more creative use of media, supporting the work done on our very biggest brands and independently leading the strategic thinking on others. You’ll be learning, developing and executing new solutions across a wide range of clients, with the support of your manager and the wider team.

You will work closely with key agency capabilities – including dedicated Client Leadership and media planning teams – to ensure our strategy flows through every part of the campaigns we create. In addition, you will play a critical role in new business and agency culture, supporting on pitches and training initiatives. You’ll come to us with proactive ideas around new internal Products or Thought Leadership.

In turn, our commitment to you is that you will get the opportunities, training and guidance needed for you to become the very best strategist you possibly can be.

The Clients will be a mix of Tier 2 (contributing – clients like C4, Open University and Lidl) and Tier 3 (leading – clients like Bacardi, LeShuttle and SSE)

The Ideal Candidatedoesn’t necessarily have experience working inside strategy – or even a media agency – but requires key skills and attributes to succeed in their role. They will demonstrate at least five years working in roles with the transferrable skills to successfully move into Strategy.

Firstly, you should have an innate curiosity about the relationship between a client’s business success, their brand and marketing, and their potential customer. You should be sufficiently comfortable with data and research to better understand that relationship yourself, adding to what our team and our clients already know, and be able to turn that understanding into tangible and creative implications for media. You will have a good grasp of how marketing works as a lever for business or brand growth.

You’ll be comfortable in meetings and a fluent communicator (both written and spoken), able to translate your insights and ideas into simple, digestible language and create support for them both inside the agency and with clients. You’ll want to turn those recommendations into creative and effective real-life campaigns, working collaboratively but committedly with the broader agency team to make our strategies a reality. And you should also be energetic and enthusiastic, contributing positively to the team’s culture, with a growth mindset and the willingness to lead.

You should have a working knowledge of the UK media landscape, and advertising and marketing theory.

Our standard working hours are 9:30 – 17:30, but we offer the ability to flex around core hours of 10:30 – 16:30 to give our people flexibility on how they manage their working day, whether that’s in the office or working remotely.
