The equipment analysed includes linear and rotary hydraulic actuators, hydraulic manifolds, and related components. Responsibilities encompass analyzing new designs, implementing modifications to existing designs, and providing support for production. A solid understanding of aerospace materials—their mechanical, static, and fatigue properties—as well as how manufacturing processes impact component strength, will be advantageous.
The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline and demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You should be self-motivated, collaborative, and capable of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary team under tight deadlines.
The role would suit someone at the early stages of their career who has a keen interest in analysis of mechanical products and wishes to develop and gain experience in this area. More experienced candidates would also be considered where they have relevant experience in aerospace stress analysis, ideally of hydraulic actuators, manifolds, pressure vessels, gears or similar. Candidates with stress analysis experience of other complex mechanical components and assemblies will also be considered.
Responsibilities Include
- Deliverables include static and fatigue stress calculations, stress summaries and reports and approval of component and assembly drawings. Support to the development department may be required involving compilation or review of test specifications, defining loading cycles for test and reviewing test results.
- Proven capability in stress analysis, ideally of high lift actuation components and assemblies
- Able to prepare stress calculations and reports to a high standard
- Reviewer of test specifications and reports (QTP, QTR, ATP etc.)
- Able to manage priorities and multi-task efficiently
- Contributes to knowledge sharing within the stress analysis group
- Provide assistance to other stress engineers when required
- Confident engaging peers, management and customers in stress related discussions
- Contributes technical knowledge to the Engineering team in support of analysis methods, research activities and failure investigations
- Knowledge of static (Proof / Ultimate), fatigue and impulse testing is an advantage
- MRB / Non-conformance experience will be an advantage
- Experience in hand calculations is essential
- Experience using Mathcad would be an advantage
- CAD (SolidWorks or Unigraphics NX) experience is desirable
- Experience of FEA is required, competence using ANSYS is an advantage
- Knowledge of aerospace materials, their mechanical, static and fatigue properties and the influence of manufacturing processes on the strength of components will be beneficial.
- Good communication skills
- Proactive and driven – will make things happen
