SUB-EDITOR DESIGNER

Based in the NEU Hamilton House Office (London WC1H 9BD)

Part-time (2.5 Days per week), Permanent

Commencing salary £52,642 per annum (to be paid pro-rata)

The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional knowledge and specialist expertise to deliver the union’s publishing portfolio of magazines, newsletters, e-bulletins and other print publications.
  • Work to recruit, retain and engage/mobilise members, engage and influence stakeholders, and celebrate the union’s success.
  • Sub-edit for a range of audiences; lay out, design and production processes; and manage relationships with suppliers.
  • Use good judgment and make decisions within accepted parameters; communicate effectively within a small team.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience of sub-editing for a range of audiences.
  • Proven experience of layout, design and production processes.
  • Ability to manage relations with suppliers.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to exercise judgement within accepted parameters.
  • Excellent IT skills including specialist use of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite and digital technologies, websites and other electronic media.

Working Arrangements

Prospective applicants are advised that your normal place of work will be the NEU office specified in this advert and that the NEU operates “Blended Working Arrangements” for office-based staff, which means you will typically need to be based in the designated NEU office for 3 to 4 days a week (based on a full-time contract), with the remaining days based at home, and subject to business needs.
