We are looking for an Sustainability Lead (maternity cover) to join us on a 12-month fixed term contract starting early December 2025 – now is your chance to join us in powering a sustainable future.
This position will be based at either our London office or Knaresborough office, with the flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week. This role can be fulfilled on a part-time or full-time basis.
About the role
The Sustainability Lead (maternity cover) will be an important member of the team reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and will be responsible for leading the delivery of Harmony’s global sustainability strategy.
You will have experience driving transformational change across a wide range of environmental and social sustainability areas including climate change, biodiversity, circularity, human rights and community impact.
The position requires a motivated and enthusiastic individual who is not afraid to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in. You will have strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to effectively engage with and influence internal and external stakeholders across all seniority levels, including Board-level stakeholders. Highly organised, reliable and efficient, you will have excellent attention to detail and be capable of delivering work to a high standard of accuracy.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the ongoing delivery of Harmony’s sustainability strategy, including monitoring and reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support and empower colleagues to implement sustainability initiatives and workstreams.
- Oversee measurement and reporting of sustainability impact metrics, including Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions metrics and GHG lifecycle assessments.
- Support the implementation of Harmony’s Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Deliver internal engagement and communication of the strategy, action plans and progress to colleagues.
- Prepare and present sustainability reports to the Board and Sustainability Committee.
- Lead on external sustainability reporting.
- Contribute to sustainability-related advocacy, media, social content and thought leadership.
- Participate in BESS and Solar industry sustainability working groups.
- Coordinate supply chain ESG due diligence activities and collaborate with suppliers to achieve Harmony’s sustainability objectives across the supply chain.
- Manage social impact and investment programmes, including project-level community benefit funds.
- Support project teams to engage with local stakeholders.
- Support project teams to implement sustainable practices and maximise biodiversity benefits throughout the project lifecycle.
- Act as a go-to sustainability expert for the Harmony Energy team, offering support, advice, and best practice on environmental and social sustainability topics.
Experience and skills
- Solid environmental and social sustainability experience and technical knowledge, ideally in the energy sector, but we are also interested in hearing from anyone that can translate their skills to address the challenges we face.
- Proven track record of successfully implementing sustainability strategies and/or initiatives to achieve sustainability objectives.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to effectively engage with and influence internal and external stakeholders across all seniority levels, including Board-level stakeholders.
- A self-starter with a hands-on mentality and willingness to work on all things big and small.
- Resilient and able to work in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Comprehensive understanding of environmental and social sustainability metrics, reporting standards, and sustainability report writing experience.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
