What you’ll do

  • Act as the focal point for Systems Engineering Governance and trend the Systems Engineering capability in a positive direction across the Business Areas.
  • Support Systems Engineering capability and improvement matters, providing proactive guidance on Systems Thinking and Methods for adoption that aligns with successful project execution.
  • Lead a diverse product portfolio with programmes at different stages of development, ensuring the right activities are performed at the right time.
  • Provide direction, guidance and expertise to ensure: our systems engineering team assess problems completely, reuse techniques and artefacts across projects, manage complexity through strong architecture, predict and mitigate emergent behaviours, and enact correct verification and validation strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Influence the development of Engineering artefacts, their technical direction and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Work across demanding and complex areas of the business, across full-scale development programmes spanning the engineering lifecycle (ISR and Force Protection teams).
  • Act as the focal point for systems engineering governance, supporting Lifecycle Management (LCM) activities.
  • Provide coaching on Systems Engineering practices for early and later lifecycle stages to ensure stakeholder needs are understood.
  • Ensure appropriate concepting, modelling and simulation techniques are used across the lifecycle to inform architectures and options.
  • Influence whole life design considerations relating to Safety, Security, Manufacture, Test, Supportability, Through Life Support per company processes.
  • Support quarterly threat and mitigation reviews across the Business Area on project status and enabling initiatives.
  • Represent Leonardo within Systems Engineering bodies and groups of interest (e.g., INCOSE).
  • Identify trends and share lessons learned to improve quality and efficiency of future work.
  • Promote an agile mindset to systems engineering, fostering experimentation and learning from failures.
  • Collaborate with peers across the UK to promote continual learning and improvement as a change agent for systems engineering.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience as a Chief/Lead Engineer (or role with similar responsibilities).
  • Experience applying governance and guidance on Systems Engineering LCM process.
  • Experience in Integrated Project Teams delivering Engineering artefacts successfully.
  • Experience eliciting stakeholder expectations and defining architectures.
  • Experience managing and collaborating with internal/external stakeholders; strong leadership and decision-making at a senior level.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to influence.
  • Motivation, tenacity and determination to deliver outputs and results.

Desirable experience

  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering tools and methodologies.
  • Experience on large-scale Systems Integration programmes with cost, schedule and quality considerations.
  • Domain experience in Telecommunications, RF, Electronic Warfare, Electro-Optics, Air/Land/Sea sub-systems, Data Distribution Services, Sensor Fusion, AI/ML.
  • Practitioner level ability using Model Driven Engineering tools (e.g., Cameo, Matlab, Simulink, DOORS).

Security Clearance

This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls may apply (National Security Vetting). This could include meeting eligibility for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
