Tailings / Geotechnical Engineer role at WSP in the UK & Ireland.

What you will do

  • Work as part of a diverse team of engineers, scientists and modellers from conceptual design through to detail design and engineering
  • Provide specialised technical input focused on tailings management facilities, heap leach facilities, water impoundments and waste rock dump design, soil mechanics, soil improvement methods, geosynthetic materials engineering and related civil engineering work for projects worldwide
  • Assist project managers in the successful delivery of projects by managing own involvement in projects, including time, budget and quality control
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications, bill of quantities, and cost estimates
  • Travel within the UK and internationally to assist clients in solving engineering problems and support construction of WSP designs. Travel outside of UK may require overnight stays and duration will depend on project location
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with new and existing clients and represent WSP on site
  • Liaise with the Mining Team networks, including specialists within WSP nationally and internationally, including participation in Europe’s Mining Team meetings as required
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to other team members at graduate level
  • Assist others in business development activities including preparation of technical proposals
  • Adhere to WSP values and Code of Conduct; raise concerns as appropriate
  • Display a safety-first attitude in line with an interdependent health and safety culture; adhere to WSP health and safety policy and procedures
  • Ensure actions and behaviours align to WSP's Equality Policy at all times

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

  • Degree qualified within civil engineering, geotechnical engineering or engineering geology, with a strong emphasis on soil mechanics
  • Knowledge of national and international design guidelines and regulations
  • Mining and geotechnical experience relating to mine waste disposal/facilities
  • Ability to interpret and monitor results and use tools to monitor and design geotechnical structures and assist clients with operational requirements
  • Theoretical and practical experience of project management and consultancy, including client relationships, projects, and project teams
  • Ability to manage and work effectively within a team environment
  • Willingness to travel in the UK and internationally, including remote environments
