The Role

As Step 2 Team Lead, you'll:

  • Lead a key department within the service, helping shape its future direction and driving delivery.
  • Provide clinical supervision to High Intensity Therapists and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners.
  • Maintain a clinical caseload as a Senior Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist.
  • Take ownership of a strategic area such as performance, training, or capacity planning.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Lead and fellow Team Leads to ensure high-quality care and meet national targets.

The Person

  • Has IAPT supervision credentials.

Main duties

High-Intensity Therapists receive specialist CBT supervision and training delivered by senior staff as well as the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma — a national centre of clinical excellence and research innovation within SLaM.

This is a hybrid role with a requirement to work 1-2 days in the office and the rest of the time from home. It is sometimes necessary to close vacancies before the closing date due to an exceptional response, so please apply as soon as possible.

Band 8a, Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £64,156 to £71,148 per year inclusive of Inner HCAs

Location: Lambeth (various locations), 1a Dalbury House, Ferndale Rd, London SW9 8AP

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning, managing and evaluating the delivery of services within Lambeth Talking Therapies
  • Assessing service need and capacity requirements
  • Planning and managing recruitment to meet needs
  • Monitoring and evaluating service activity and outcomes
  • Induction, training and development of staff
  • Developing and updating policies and procedures for high-quality clinical services
  • Commissioning and monitoring external provision of services as agreed

Team Management

  • Agree job plans, performance targets and development goals with the team; monitor and support staff achievement
  • Foster a supportive and performance-focused team ethos; facilitate meetings and supervision
  • Provide day-to-day line management for the team (leave, sickness, etc.)
  • Ensure two-way communication between staff and service management

Service Leadership

  • Share responsibility for direction and development of the service; lead monthly team meetings
  • Provide regular activity and performance reports
  • Identify areas for improvement and initiate development projects
  • Lead in agreed development areas and recruitment processes
  • Contribute to user consultation and engagement
  • Respond to patient complaints and participate in clinical governance as agreed
  • Promote use of outcome measures and service user involvement

Clinical

  • Provide expertise in a highly specialist clinical area within an IAPT framework
  • Deliver NICE-recommended, formulation-driven interventions for depression and anxiety
  • Assess social support, employment and community involvement in therapy
  • Provide highly specialist assessment and formulation for complex needs
  • Provide psychological reports and inform referrers and service users
  • Deliver evidence-based treatments, monitor outcomes and adapt as needed
  • Maintain clinical records in line with service protocols and manage risk
  • Travel to community settings and across the Trust as required
  • Collaborate with IAPT team to ensure clear referral pathways
  • Maintain a clinical caseload aligned with activity targets

Teaching, Training and Supervision

  • Receive regular clinical and professional supervision per guidelines
  • Contribute to knowledge development within Lambeth IAPT
  • Provide supervision to HI CBT therapists, PWPs, trainees and junior staff; include live supervision
  • Deliver supervision focused on outcomes; participate in supervisors groups
  • Contribute to risk management and on-call rota
  • Provide specialist training to other professionals and plan teaching for pre/post-qualification psychologists

Research and Service Development

  • Support a strong research culture valuing outcome measures
  • Encourage critical evaluation and undertake research
  • Use theory to inform practice and disseminate findings
  • Initiate and supervise service evaluation and audits
  • Disseminate findings through presentations and articles

Professional

  • Work autonomously, adhering to HPC/BABCP guidelines and service policies
  • Maintain Continuing Professional Development requirements
  • Stay aware of advances in CBT and IAPT
  • Work within CBT principles and clinical governance

General

  • Participate in IAPT service and Lambeth Directorate meetings
  • Travel to GP practices and service meetings
  • Be available to work one evening as required
