OverviewTeam Leader – Building Control – closing date 30.11.2025Salary from £58,488 to £63,225 pa depending on skills and experiencePlus lease car subsidy or cash alternative of £3,050 paPermanent – Full time – 37 hours per weekLocation: Ashford, KentAre you ready to lead a forward-thinking Building Control team in a time of transformation for the profession?We are looking for an ambitious individual who has the vision and leadership to shape a local authority building control service that can grow and thrive amidst changing priorities and increased scrutiny.This role is about leading innovation, navigating change, and embracing new ways of working in a digitally advancing world. Local Government Reform (LGR) presents us with an opportunity, and we are looking for someone who sees the bigger picture who can turn change into progress and drive forward the strategic direction of the service.You will ensure that the team not only delivers high-quality construction oversight but also play a leading role in identifying and implementing opportunities for expanding discretionary services, positioning the team as a valued partner for developers and businesses. This will include:Evolving service delivery by embracing digital tools and modern practices to improve efficiency and customer experience.Making timely and sound determinations on building regulation applications and advising on compliance matters.Helping to devise and monitor a robust business plan for the building control service.Representing the Council in enforcement actions, policy discussions, and collaborative partnerships.Overseeing investigations into dangerous structures and enforcement cases.Qualifications and experienceA Diploma in Building/Engineering (or equivalent experience).Registered Building Inspector (RBI) Class 2A, with ambition to progress to Class 2F and Technical Manager Class 4.Strong leadership skills, capable of motivating and shaping a high-performing team.A forward-thinking approach, embracing digital advancements and modern working practices.An ability to demonstrate commercial awareness.Requirements and preferencesClass 2F accreditation may be advantageous, but the key requirement is experience and commitment in developing expertise and driving change.About the organisation and roleAt Ashford Borough Council, we are embracing change and seizing opportunity to deliver a modern, progressive Local Authority Building Control service.
