Overview

Team Leader - Integrated Environment Planning, Herts and North London. This permanent role leads the Integrated Environment Planning (IEP) team in the Herts and North London Area to deliver environmental improvements for water quality, water resources and river catchments. You will work with water companies on investment programmes and with our National Directorate to hold partners to account for commitments to protect the environment. You will promote inclusion, ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of your team, support development, identify training needs and manage ways of working to meet future needs. You will oversee budgets, work planning and recruitment, and adapt to changing priorities. You will play an active role in the Environment Agency’s Incident response, with possible additional pay and training available.

The team is a trusted advisory group at the heart of environmental decision making, leading on integrated environmental planning with a focus on water quality. The role is based in the Alchemy Office (Herts and North London Area) with some travel to other offices and locations. Flexible working patterns are supported, including job share, with a hybrid model combining home and office working and required attendance for certain meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the IEP team, ensuring delivery of environmental improvements and prioritising work for the greatest environmental benefit.
  • Oversee budgets, work planning, and recruitment; adapt to changing priorities and demands from internal and external sources.
  • Support team development, identify training needs, and promote a culture of health, safety and wellbeing.
  • Promote inclusion, act as a role model, and build a supportive and engaging workplace.
  • Engage with water companies and other partners to deliver environmental outcomes and hold others to account where appropriate.
  • Take an active role in incident response and business continuity planning; participate in incident response training and arrangements as needed.

  • Experience managing, developing and supporting a team with multiple priorities and competing demands.
  • Strong leadership to motivate others and deliver results; ability to influence across multiple teams and partners.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to think strategically about environmental outcomes.
  • Ability to balance internal and external workloads and prioritise effectively.
  • Commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and to modelling inclusive leadership.
  • Experience in health, safety and wellbeing management for yourself and others.
