Overview
The Team Leader will lead a team of officers focused on the regulation of water company activities, working with national and local colleagues. The team has a critical operational role to protect the environment, helping create a cleaner, safer and healthier environment for people and wildlife. The role involves addressing incidents and enforcement issues in the water industry, including high risk environmental challenges. This is a broad, multi-skilled leadership remit with diverse responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Manage and motivate experienced officers as well as those new to the business, with strong team management, performance and service delivery skills.
- Collaborate with compliance, enforcement and legal teams to establish and embed new ways of working.
- Maintain health, safety and wellbeing of the team, support development, identify training needs and manage ways of working to meet future requirements.
- Balance workload within the team to focus on areas delivering the greatest environmental benefit.
- Occasionally work in an office base with site visits; be flexible to work with teams in other locations or adapt to changing priorities.
- Take on incident roles to respond effectively to incidents or support business continuity, with potential for additional pay and full training and flexible working arrangements.
- Assist in shaping and communicating expectations with other teams and stakeholders; ensure truthful and accurate reporting of your own experience in any applications.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- A full UK driving licence, as travel across a wide geographic area may be required.
- Strong leadership experience with the ability to lead and motivate teams to deliver shared goals.
- A track record of working collaboratively across teams or organisations.
- Knowledge of health, safety and wellbeing best practices.
- Experience in identifying, addressing, and resolving performance challenges constructively, fostering continuous improvement and accountability.
Desirable
- A coaching and mentoring approach to developing people, with the ability to prioritise effectively and balance team needs with wider organisational goals.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a flexible, problem-solving mindset and evidence-based decision-making capability.
