The Role
The technical business analyst will be an expert on our data analytics platform. They will understand available data, integrate new data sets, model them, and present them for insights reporting. They will translate requirements for developers and work with stakeholders to deliver valuable data developments. Embedded within a collaborative and supportive data, research, and insights team, you will support and grow the data and insights domain within the Economist Group.
How You Will Contribute In This Role
- Collaborating with Insight analysts, Product Managers, Data Architects, and development teams to ensure business data requirements become suitable technical data solutions, acting as a bridge between business, data, and technology
- Supporting research, data and insights with data management, by addressing business requirements, creating backlog tasks, defining technical minimum acceptance criteria, and quality assuring technical solutions prior to implementation
- Preparing requirements for the tech delivery team by evaluating source data, modelling data systems, mapping data, and analysing data flow
- Provide data mappings between source systems and target data models to the development team based on business requirements
- Innovate and drive adoption of new data assets, ensuring these are well documented, intuitive to use and fit for purpose
- Understanding, interpreting and documenting business processes and their underpinning data elements
- Supporting development and test teams with data requirements, and assisting with data integration and acceptance testing
What We’re Looking For
- Experience with a data platform
- Highly motivated, proactive and hungry to solve problems to an excellent standard
- A STEM background
- Demonstrable experience performing business analysis in the context of behavioural data and cloud analytics as well as transactional data
- Working knowledge of data architecture principles (such as data warehouse design, data lakes, and ETL) as well as data technologies and languages (such as SQL, Python and R)
- Ability to self-direct and take on broad projects from beginning to end
- Knowledge of data security and privacy regulations and practices, with knowledge of PII and GDPR
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in facilitating the use of new technology systems and understanding business requirements with stakeholders at all levels, including senior management
