Role Overview
Stellar's Guildford studio is now looking for a Technical Director to join us, overseeing our Engineering teams and leading the technical strategy and development of our AAA projects. You will be leading a large team of skilled engineers, driving innovation, performance and excellence in our software across multiple projects, most notably our arcade racer being built in UE5. This is a senior leadership role with huge impact, offering the opportunity to shape our projects and our studio too, ensuring that our engineers and infrastructure can support cutting edge visuals, ambitious gameplay experiences, and scalable online features. Responsibilities
- Define and drive the technical direction, architecture and pipelines for AAA game projects
- Lead, mentor, and manage our team of Engineers, creating learning opportunities and development plans to ensure continuous progression of our colleagues
- Collaborate with our team of Directors to define milestones and production timelines
- Regularly review and oversee code quality
- Work closely with Art, Design, and Production teams to champion the vision of the game
- Identify risks in development and come up with ways to reduce their impact on project timescales
- Support the team with Research and Development efforts and learning about new technologies and advancements
- Manage engineering resources
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Technical Director, with multiple shipped AAA titles under your belt
- Significant knowledge of game engines (particularly Unreal) and multiple platforms including console and PC
- Exceptional C++ skills
- Broad understanding of multiple programming disciplines
- Strong communication skills – this is a high‑profile role internally that will also collaborate with external partners
- Experience with multiplayer game architecture
- Experience managing large scale, multi‑disciplinary teams across multiple locations
- Bonus points if you have:
- At least one, or two extra programming languages under your belt
- Previous experience in building large scale, realtime, multiplayer games
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies or experience working in an Agile environment
- Experience managing remotely
