This is a role to lead our Civil & Structural engineering team focusing on the Energy Sector. The successful candidate will drive growth, set strategic goals, manage client relationships and ensure excellence in delivery of our services. As Team Manager/Technical Director, you will provide leadership, technical expertise, and strategic direction to your team, with responsibility for a diverse portfolio of projects and ongoing client relationships.

The role will be based at our Glasgow office and can be worked flexibly with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office/on site and the option of adjusted start and finish times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop the team of Civil & Structural Engineers & Technicians; provide technical and pastoral mentorship to help them achieve development goals.
  • Strategic Leadership: Set and implement strategic objectives for the team; contribute to strategic growth in the Energy sector.
  • Technical Oversight: Provide high-level technical guidance and act as the technical authority and discipline lead.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Lead engagement with clients, regulatory bodies and industry partners, fostering collaborative relationships.
  • Project Oversight: Manage the team to ensure project deliverables meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Business Development: Identify and pursue opportunities for growth and expanding Sweco’s market presence.
  • Thought Leadership: Represent Sweco in industry forums, conferences, and publications to showcase expertise.

To Be Successful In This Role You’ll Possess

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree (or higher) in Civil or Structural Engineering, ideally with chartered status.
  • Professional Experience: Extensive leadership experience (ideally 15+ years) in consulting engineering on complex projects.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth Civil/Structural engineering experience in a consultancy; onshore wind, solar, or BESS experience preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication capable of influencing diverse audiences.
  • Project Management: Experience in managing large-scale multi-disciplinary projects, including budgeting, timelines, risk management and stakeholder coordination.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel to meet and support teams and clients across the UK.
