Our Client is a global leader in the nuclear power sector.The RoleThe Thermal Hydraulics Engineer will contribute modelling development, performance analysis and conceptualisation expertise to our Client’s portfolio of nuclear engineering and fuel manufacturing projects. They will have proven experience and knowledge in Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Nuclear Technology and Nuclear Safety and will join a busy department in a permanent staff basis at a time of exciting growth.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide analysis to support preliminary concept assessment, design, safety case justification and manufacturing supportLeading designs of thermal management systems and developing thermal modelling / calibration methodologiesModelling and analysing thermal hydraulic systems for nuclear and fuel systems (cooling systems, reactor, heat transfer, heat exchangers etc)Performing code validation and benchmarking studiesExecuting technical studies and reporting on schedules whilst interacting with other scientific, engineering and safety departmentsSupporting design activities via thermal hydraulic simulations in close collaboration with Mechanical Design, Codes and Methods and Safety/Licensing teamsUsing thermal hydraulic computer and simulation codes for design and safety assessments (1D, CFD, RELAP5, severe accident etc)Support the safety justification through analysis and quality assuranceAct as primary point of contact for validation cases of analytical methodsCreate and provide regulator presentations and technical reviews to senior management.Perform technical risk assessments and requirements management and integration for fluid and thermal systemsDrafting and reviewing project deliverables such as calculation notes, design specifications, and technical reports.Key RequirementsProven background in heat transfer, fluid mechanics and thermal hydraulicsExperience in conceptualising, modelling, and analysing thermal hydraulic systemsProficient in performing engineering analysis, including thermal, fluid, stress, manufacturability, and cost analysisStrong knowledge and experience of nuclear technology and nuclear safetyProficient in the use of thermal hydraulic codes and tools (RELAP5, ATHLET, Thermal FEA)Knowledge of simulation and engineering tools and CFD codes (e.g MATLAB, MELCOR, SPECTRA, ANSYS, CAD, OpenFOAM etc)Proficient in performing steady-state and transient modelling of cooling systemsStrong technical, commercial and project management competenciesBSc or MSc degree qualified in Engineering or equivalent (ideally)Ability to collaborate with cross-functional departments to define design requirementsAbility to provide technical feedback to design and manufacturing teamsAnalytical and logical attitude with ability to work on studies simultaneouslyExcellent attention to detail and strong problem solverGiven current workloads, Simpson Booth regrets to inform that in the instance you have not heard from us within 2 weeks of your application, you should consider yourself unsuccessful at this time.
