Tobacco Dependency Treatment Advisor

- Tobacco Dependency Treatment Advisors will be integral members of the newly formed Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service, providing smoking cessation interventions within the CURE model for treating tobacco dependence.
- The implementation of the CURE model will ensure that all service users with who are admitted to trust wards will be screened for their smoking status and smokers will be offered NRT, including on admission
- Service users will be referred for an opt out discussion with a Tobacco Dependency Treatment Advisor, who will offer specialist motivational and behavioural support, the development of a personalised plan, facilitate access to appropriate pharmacotherapy, and provide ongoing follow up support.
- Tobacco Dependency Treatment Advisors will promote the Smoke Free policy to service users and staff across inpatient, outpatient and community mental health services, supporting service users to successfully stop smoking, whilst acting as a Smoke Free Champion.
- Tobacco Dependency Treatment Advisors will support the development and the day-to-day running of the Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service to ensure safe, well organised, and evidence-based care is offered routinely to all identified smokers and provided to all that access the service.
Main duties of the job
Deliver tobacco harm reduction (smoking cessation) assessments, advice, and support sessions, including advice on stop smoking medications and vapes, working within recommended protocols and guidelines. This will involve face to face sessions in a variety of settings and venues across the Trust.

Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
- Recognised competency based level 3 or above qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. NVQ, B-TEC QCF, Apprenticeship), or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Educated to GCSE including Maths and English grades A-C (or 4-9), or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Care Certificate
Experience
- Previous experience within health and social care settings.
- Evidence of continuing personal development.
- Experience of working with people with a mental health condition and/or Learning Disability
- Experience of delivering smoking cessation support.
- Experience of providing help, support and/or counselling on a one to one or group basis.
Knowledge
- oKnowledge of the impact smoking has on health and knowledge of evidence-based interventions for smoking cessation
Skills and Abilities
- Good verbal and written communications skills
- Good organisational skills
- Work effectively and independently without direct supervision and/or as part of a team.
- Ability to work with a range of service users, staff and stakeholders, even in challenging circumstances.
- Ability to cope under pressure with high levels of concentration.
- Experience of use of using Pennine care clinical systems.
- Experience of providing smoking cessation interventions
Work Related Circumstances
- There is a frequent requirement to travel independently, mainly within allocated trust care groups to provide smoking cessation interventions, and an occasional requirement to travel across the wide footprint of the Trust to provide smoking cessation interventions and attend meetings and events relevant to the role.
- Use of a car or access to a means of mobility to travel across the Trust footprint in line with service needs
- Willing to carry out all duties and responsibilities of the post in accordance with the Trust's Equal Opportunities and Equality and Diversity policies

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
