Salary is circa £24,580 per annum plus a range of other benefits; salary upon finishing the trainee programme is circa £33,000 per annum. Working pattern: Permanent | Full Time. Start Date: August 2026.
What is the role?
Our Trainee Site Construction Management programme lasts for three years and combines work-based learning experience and formal training and workshops, including an SVQ in Construction Site Management.
This programme will develop your knowledge and experience to become a Site Manager. On the programme you will organise work on project sites, ensuring tasks are completed safely, on time and within budget. You will liaise with contractors, surveyors and builders to keep projects on track and ensure there are enough staff, machinery and materials to complete the job. You will gain hands-on experience, build a network, and develop a unique skill set to shape your career. You will have the support of the Learning and Development team and a business mentor, and will be assigned a Site Construction Manager (SCM) to help manage day-to-day activities on site.
The programme supports career development into a Site Construction Manager role with responsibility for your own site. SSEN Transmission projects typically appoint a full-time site representative or Site Construction Manager onto each major site, acting as the on-site link between contractors and the project team, including the project manager and operations team. Projects include construction of new or modified transmission assets (132kV and above) such as substations, overhead lines and underground cables, including major civil works and buildings.
What do I need?

- Be highly organised and self-driven with the ability to manage your time well.
- Be flexible in your approach to work to maximise your chances of success, and be happy working alone or as part of a team.
- Be comfortable spending some time living away from home while on different learning placements across SSE.
- Hold a full UK Driver's Licence, or be in the process of learning to drive, as there will be a requirement to travel to project sites.
