Sheffield DocFest is the UK's leading documentary festival and one of the world's most influential markets for documentary projects. We champion and present the breadth of documentary form - film, television, podcast, immersive and art - in the vibrant city of Sheffield each June, as well as holding year-round screenings and other activities.
Behind Sheffield DocFest stand some of the most iconic names in film and broadcasting —BFI, British Council, Arts Council England, BBC, Channel 4, Prime Video, Netflix, Sky Documentaries, National Geographic, Warner Bros. Discovery, ESPN, and Al Jazeera Documentary and many more.
We are currently seeking a Treasurer of the Board to work closely with the Head of Finance and to collaborate with the Chair of Trustees, the Managing Director, the Creative Director, and the Senior Team. The Treasurer will provide expert knowledge and support on all financial and compliance aspects of Charity accounting, enabling the delivery of the charity’s strategic vision and annual festival. They will liaise on behalf of the Board with the external auditors and may be asked to chair the Finance Committee.
We are looking for:
- A finance professional, preferably a trained accountant, with charity board experience, keen to use their expertise for social good. Previous experience as a Treasurer would be an advantage.
- A strategic thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity
- A clear communicator with the ability to bring financial information to life for non-finance specialists
- A team player, willing to guide and collaborate with others, and to devote the necessary time and effort to the role
We welcome applicants from across the UK and are particularly keen to invite responses from the South Yorkshire region.
More generally, the role of the Trustees is to act as public advocates for the festival locally, nationally and internationally, and to be a source of support in problem-solving and strategic development.
We champion diverse stories told by diverse storytellers and are committed to ensuring that the Board, as part of our wider team, represents a wide variety of lived experiences and cultural backgrounds. We strongly encourage and welcome applications from underrepresented groups, including those from the Global South, Indigenous backgrounds, Migrants, LGBTQIA+ people and those who identify as disabled and neurodiverse.
The Board of Trustees meets four times a year, with additional finance subcommittee meetings and occasional ad hoc meetings (online) as required.
Meetings are held in Sheffield, London, and online, with remote options for every meeting.
Trustees are also encouraged to attend the festival in Sheffield each June.
The role is voluntary, with support for travel/expenses provided when meetings are held in person.
