As a Principal Systems Engineer for Rohde & Schwarz on the Type 26 Global Combat Ship project, you will be at the forefront of production on the Royal Navy’s most advanced warship to date. You will work as part of a skilled, multi‑national engineering team, integrating the complete communications system on site and onboard the ships at Scotstoun Dockyard. Each day brings new challenges whose resolution will be instrumental to the success of the team.
Responsibilities
Planning and execution of customer‑facing Harbour Acceptance Trials (HATs)
Train T26 Naval Systems Engineers through on‑the‑job training
Create and review technical documentation, including test scripts, STW checklists, technical reports, etc.
Mentoring of less experienced engineers
Occasional support of test activities at Supplier Integration Facility (SIF) located in Fleet, Hampshire
Occasional support of test activities at Land‑Based Integration Facility (LBIF) located in Portsmouth, Hampshire
Occasional support of integration/test activities at Rohde & Schwarz Plant located in Teisnach, Germany
Contribute to the resolution of in‑service system issues (Occasional)
Essential Qualifications
Recognised qualification in an engineering discipline (e.g. Degree/HND/HNC/SVQ Level 3) or equivalent
Experience working as part of an engineering team in a senior or principal engineer role
Experience of installing and STW of complex systems
Experience leading technical fault diagnosis and rectification on complex systems
Experience of writing, reading and interpreting technical documentation
Experience of writing and executing tests as part of an electronic test suite
Ability to work independently or as part of a larger team
Active SC clearance, or willingness to undergo vetting to obtain SC clearance
Experience adhering to a strict SHE policy in the workplace
Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of military communication systems and standards
Experience or knowledge of RF communications
Experience working in shipyard environments
Experience with cable termination and testing
Knowledge of Juniper/Cisco network devices
Experience or knowledge of fibre optics
Knowledge of serial communication technologies and protocols
