Overview

Underwriter – Property and Package role at QBE Europe, Glasgow (hybrid) – full time, employed by QBE. This role underwrites business in accordance with the business plan and delegated underwriting authority. You will assess risks, evaluate insurance applications, and determine coverage options. You’ll work with brokers and clients to understand their needs and tailor insurance solutions to meet requirements. You’ll develop your underwriting career in an environment that values subject‑matter expertise.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite insurance risks in accordance with the Business Plan and the personal authority to meet business objectives
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues to maximise influence
• Participate fully and use your expertise to shape and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice
• Positively promote the department, division and company to maximise brand leverage
• Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
• Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency
• Actively keep abreast of market dynamics and demonstrate market cycle awareness to operate effectively and appropriately

About You / Qualifications

• Proven experience in the Property & Package underwriting space
• A solid understanding of profit drivers and how to maximise shareholder value
• Intermediate proficiency in Excel and other relevant software tools
• Excellent organisational, prioritisation, and interpersonal skills
• Strong negotiation abilities, with a creative approach to underwriting and programme design
• Familiarity with risk profiling, pricing tools, and loss modelling techniques
