East London Waterworks Park is looking for user experience researcher volunteers to lead projects in creating our community-owned park. You will have a significant impact on the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds. By leading research projects that explore how diverse professionals (architects, ecologists, etc.) collaborate to shape community infrastructure, you will directly contribute to the development of a park that truly reflects the needs and desires of the local community. Your input will help us craft volunteer experiences that inspire, educate, and engage our service users, stakeholders, funders and the general public, ultimately driving support for the park’s mission and ensuring its long‑term sustainability.
Qualifications
Strong User Research Skills
Proven experience in conducting various user research methods (e.g., interviews, surveys, observations, usability testing, ethnographic studies).
Ability to design and execute research plans, analyze data and synthesize findings into actionable insights.
Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
Community Engagement Experience
Experience working with diverse communities and understanding their needs and perspectives.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with community members.
Experience facilitating workshops, focus groups and community engagement activities.
Collaborative Spirit
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, including architects, ecologists, community researchers and other professionals.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively communicate research findings and recommendations to the team.
Willingness to share knowledge and expertise with other team members.
Passion for Community Development
Genuine interest in community‑led projects and a desire to contribute to the creation of a positive social impact.
Understanding of the importance of community ownership and engagement in urban planning and development.
Passion for environmental sustainability and creating inclusive and accessible public spaces.
Other Desirable Skills
Experience with participatory research methods.
Knowledge of community development principles and best practices.
Experience working with volunteers and managing volunteer programs.
Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools.
Responsibilities
East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer‑led charity that has raised £2m to purchase land from the Department for Education and transform a 14‑acre former water depot into a biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. You will participate in our community‑led working group, support the project and, when possible, lead research projects exploring how architects, ecologists, community researchers, political campaigners, fundraisers and communications professionals collaborate to create community infrastructure. You will help lead on projects, attend fortnightly meetings and contribute remotely to agreed tasks.
