User Researcher

Overview

We are looking to fill mid and senior level user research roles within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality digital services for our public sector client that meet the Government’s Digital by Default Service Standard. You will also work for other government and private sector clients, devise and apply appropriate research strategies, and work closely with designers, business analysts and software developers to turn user research data into actionable insights and user stories that influence product/service direction and prototype development.

Hybrid Working

The places you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of company offices, client sites and your home. You will be expected to work from a Capgemini office a minimum of 2 days a week, and you must be willing to travel as required by the role.

Responsibilities

  • You will help the team understand the value of user research and ensure that they feel a shared ownership of the research output.
  • Work with Service and Product Managers to devise appropriate research strategies to generate focused insights they need to inform service development.
  • Develop user recruitment briefs with due consideration for all types of users, including those who experience barriers to using your service.
  • Plan, design and conduct research to test new service ideas (including interviews to probe context and needs, user requirements gathering, early‑stage concept and prototype testing, guerrilla research and usability testing sessions).
  • Design, script and analyse quantitative surveys, manage qualitative/quantitative research projects such as proposition development, visual identity and customer experience mapping.
  • Present findings, recommendations and customer insights to senior decision makers and help deliver a consistent user experience across a broad range of digital products and services.
  • Contribute to the continuous development and enhancement of products and services, mentor junior User Researchers where necessary and participate in the wider user research community, building relationships with other User Researchers and identifying best practices we can adopt.

Qualifications

  • User research related degree, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant professional certifications or equivalent experience.

Desirable

  • Expertise in, or the ability to lead user research projects and activities.
  • Experience of leading design sessions and integrating diverse perspectives.
  • Understand the strategic context of your work and how it aligns with broader project goals.
  • Experience of working in other sectors.
  • Consultancy experience and demonstrable experience of opening‑up new account spaces.
  • Multi‑disciplinary design skills set.

Additional Requirements

To be successfully appointed to this role, it is a requirement to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance. Successful applicants must have resided continuously within the United Kingdom for the last 5 years and meet other criteria and requirements.
