Volunteer and Community Development Officer
Hours: Full time – 35 hours
Job Type: Permanent
Location: Hybrid role – Office and home based with outreach work across Slough (and environs)
Salary: £24,370

Job Summary: This is a key role at Slough CVS, responsible for developing and delivering a volunteer strategy that supports both internal and external volunteer-led activity. The postholder will manage the Volunteer Platform, recruit volunteers to support local charities, community groups, the NHS, and local authority services, and oversee the internal volunteers at SCVS. They will also lead the Slough Quality Protects Programme and contribute to the growth and capacity-building of community organisations across Slough.
Responsibilities
- General
- Lead the development and implementation of the Volunteering Strategy for Slough CVS.
- Manage and maintain the Simply Connects Volunteer Platform.
- Supervise, motivate, and support the volunteer team.
- Support the growth, capacity-building, and development of community and voluntary organisations.
- Manage the Slough Quality Protects Quality Assurance Programme
- Operational
- Expand the number of organisations, charities, local authorities, NHS services, and businesses offering volunteering opportunities on the platform, ensuring information is accurate and up-to-date.
- Actively engage with Slough residents and communities to increase individual registrations on the platform as potential volunteers.
- Understand the design, implementation, and maintenance of the Volunteer Platform to meet strategic and operational needs, targeting and recruiting volunteers for both voluntary and statutory organisations.
- Update volunteer policies, resources, and handbooks, ensuring groups have access to model policies, governance tools, and relevant information via the Slough CVS website.
- Oversee the DBS application process for volunteers.
- Provide 1:1 support to help the growth of new and existing voluntary and community groups across Slough, ensuring compliance with Charity Commission regulations.
- Enhance volunteer recruitment and retention through outreach, events, fairs, newsletters.
- People
- Participate in one-to-one meetings and annual performance appraisals with your line manager.
- Attend and actively contribute to regular team and management meetings.
- Facilitate access to the Volunteer Passport training to encourage volunteer engagement and skill development.
- Lead a Volunteering Steering Group to shape the future strategy and vision for volunteering in Slough.
- Work closely with voluntary and community organisations to build their capacity to manage and retain volunteers effectively.
- Attend relevant training, as agreed with your line manager, to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Undertake professional development as required.
