VP Engineering
This role can be based in London or Berlin
As VP Engineering, you will be responsible for driving the technical vision, delivery, and operational excellence of Moonfare's core platform. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead and scale a high-performing engineering organisation, creating the systems and culture needed to support rapid innovation as Moonfare continues to grow.
A key focus will be leading Moonfare's re-platforming initiative. In parallel, you'll play a key role in preparing the organisation for future AI-powered enhancements to engineering productivity.
This is a high-impact role with visibility at the executive level. You will play an instrumental part in shaping the future of Moonfare's technology, introducing AI into development processes, and helping define a lean, modern engineering culture. You will also work closely with the CEO and other senior leaders on company-wide initiatives.
You will:
- Define and evolve Moonfare's engineering strategy in line with business goals and product vision
- Lead the re-platforming of Moonfare's core platform, collaborating closely with Security and Infrastructure leadership to ensure timely, secure, and scalable execution
- Scale a diverse and distributed engineering team, ensuring strong performance, alignment, and career development
- Champion a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and collaboration across engineering, product, and design
- Establish and continuously improve engineering processes, tooling, and architecture to support high-quality product delivery
- Partner with Product, Design, and Operations to align on roadmap priorities and ensure high-impact execution
- Set and monitor key engineering KPIs and targets related to delivery velocity, quality, uptime, and team engagement
- Serve as a key technical advisor across the business and represent engineering in strategic discussions with executive stakeholders and external partners
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in engineering leadership roles
- Experience working in high-growth, product-led technology companies
- Proven track record of leading complex re-platforming or large-scale architectural transformation projects
- Deep understanding of software architecture, cloud infrastructure (e.g. AWS), security, and DevOps best practices
- Proven ability to build and scale high-performing engineering teams and systems
- Strong collaboration skills with experience working closely with product, design, and commercial teams
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Ability to balance hands-on technical depth with strategic thinking and long-term planning
- Passion for building impactful technology and mentoring future leaders
- Experience managing managers and aligning teams across multiple locations
- Comfortable working in a hybrid environment (4 days per week in-office in Berlin or London)
