VP Software, Technology

New Today

What You'll Bring

  • Experience growing a software organisation to 50+ in a previous role, preferably in a product involving hardware and SaaS, IoT, edge computing, or embedded systems.
  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies, but also WAgile crossover methodologies, as working with hardware products (on much longer development and certification timelines) introduces specific constraints on agility.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience working within an organisation utilising a similar technology stack (Linux/Python/VueJS) (preferred, not required).
  • A strategic thinker with exceptional leadership, decision-making, emotional intelligence and people management skills.

Why Join Us

  • Competitive compensation.
  • Participation in our Employee Stock Option Plan.
  • A chance to shape the future of unattended retail technology across the globe.
  • Main offices in Zurich, London, and satellite offices in 3 other countries.
  • The usual: budget for personal development, benefits for your well-being, and some decent swag.

At A Glance

We’re one of the fastest-growing companies in unattended retail tech - 150+ people, 6 countries, hundreds of customers, and a product that’s redefining how the world shops.

We work at the intersection of hardware and software, delivering an industry-leading cloud platform ‘Vendlive’ that powers our global unattended retail network. From managing distributed networks of smart retail systems (eg: vending machines and smart fridges) to designing and manufacturing complete point-of-sale hardware, we own the full technology stack - and we’re just getting started.

As we continue to scale, we’re looking for an experienced, hands-on VP Software to lead our software engineering and infrastructure teams. You’ll initially be overseeing a team of approximately 25 engineers (distributed in Europe between the UK, Portugal and Croatia), growing to 35+ within the next 9-12 months. This is a newly created role which is instrumental to increase capacity and support our continued growth.

You’ll be reporting directly to the Chief Technology & Product Officer (CPTO), and working alongside our VP Product, Head of Data, and a (yet to be appointed) Head of Hardware Engineering. You will also be working closely with other departments including our Operations/IT and Commercial teams to deliver market-leading products.

What You'll Do

  • Own our software architecture, ensuring systems are designed according to best practice, in a harmonised way across modules/components and teams, are maintainable and remain performant as we scale.
  • Own the design, implementation, and scaling of our software infrastructure (AWS with ECS, Terraform, SQS/MQ), stress testing ahead of the curve, ensuring it meets our future needs.
  • Oversee our application and infrastructure security, ensuring we follow best practices, implement the necessary monitoring and alerting services, and work closely with third parties for auditing and compliance where required.
  • Oversee the evolution of our technology stack, balancing innovation, stability and time to market on strategic commercial opportunities.
  • Attract, grow and retain exceptional engineering talent that is both a cultural fit and ensures we continuously strive for excellence.
  • Define and uphold engineering excellence, including coding standards and best practices across all software teams whilst nurturing a culture focused on ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead our agile engineering teams to deliver software that integrates seamlessly with our hardware products (alongside the future Head of Hardware Engineering).
